Some of you may remember him disappearing in late 2012, I never heard of the man but I was drawn particularly to this job after receiving a letter in the mail with specific destination with the victim's name written by hand above it. Clearly someone was wanting me to investigate, perhaps a family member who knew him, or a trap, because something always has the possibility of being a trap. Things can easily turn sour either way.
At least it was something, I have had to work with less.
I have to say, driving around with in three piece suit really takes me back For better or worse I couldn't tell you, working in this business for years on end is likely to bring up bad memories and things you wish didn't happen, but that's just part of being human and I think we should all be proud of being human in this state of affairs. I don't miss tying a tie though.
Just in case this disappearance was caused by a human I made sure to carry my Glock 21 I used to tote around while I was in the force, a handgun that fires .45 ACP will put a man six feet under without much issue; but of course it wouldn't be much of use as we don't necessarily deal with humans. Still best to take precautions when necessary.
The given destination was a set of coordinates, I originally thought I was heading the wrong way as my eyes almost missed an old dirt path off the road, no sign of car tracks or anything, as if it hasn't been in use for a while. I carefully started to drive down the makeshift road; but in the back of my mind it felt as if something was off, was this even on the map? Not really a good sign there. The further I went down the route I slowly realized something indeed was off. It was the trees.
All the trees were black. Completely void of any color with no leaves in sight, not even on the ground. It was such a gradual change I didn't notice until I had been surrounded by them. They were much taller than the trees normally around here, with thin branches that could be snapped by hand if need be. Slowing the car down a notch, I admire the scenery for several minutes, the wonderful smell of Autumn adding to the atmosphere to create an eerie visual.
As the path continued on it began to open up more and more until a sign could be seen on the left hand side, based on my observation it hadn't been properly maintained for several decades, nature has nearly consumed the thing so bad I can't even tell what it's supposed to say. Shortly after seeing the sign one could quickly see signs of civilization, or what used to be civilization. The small town looks to have been abandoned a long time back; however there has been recent activity in this forgotten and disconnected settlement, one building in particular that stands out above the rest, one that looks new compared to the decrepit buildings surrounding it. It is hard to describe how it appears, but in the end it doesn't matter, we aren't here to gaze at buildings, we're here to save a man.
Glock holds thirteen rounds, hopefully I won't need to use that many.
